Yuhua Primary School, which is within 1 kilometer from J’Den, can trace its beginnings back to 1930 when it was established with the joint efforts of community leaders, residents, and businesspeople in old Jurong. At that time it was known as Joo Hwa Public School and served approximately 100 students who lived nearby along old Jurong Road – all part of farming communities along Jurong Road itself.
World War II forced a temporary suspension of operations at the school; however, in 1945 they resumed operation to welcome eager students back. Due to increased demands for education from within their local communities and beyond, a branch school on Old Day Road was opened up so as to meet community demands.
In 1951, an important shift occurred as renovation and expansion work took place to upgrade facilities at Joo Hwa Primary School enhancing its facilities. Subsequently in 1979 came English being introduced as the medium of instruction to three classes at this institution renaming itself Joo Hwa Primary School until moving onto Jurong East Street 24 in 1983 with new identity as Yuhua Primary School.
An important milestone was marked in 2002 when Yuhua Primary School joined Yuqun Primary School while maintaining its distinct name and embarked upon its mission of providing quality education while forging its new identity. Students proudly adopted their new school uniforms and anthem, marking this transformative era and the school unveiled their mission: “Growing Our Hearts and Minds”, reflecting its dedication to holistic development.
Journey forward was marked by remarkable aesthetic achievements. In 2011 alone, the school’s Brass Band received recognition from MOE for being named to their Program for School-based Excellence (PSE), later known as Learning for Life Programme (LLP).
